Orkla in Asia

Europe and USA are still Orkla’s main markets, but spurred by growth rates in Asia, Orkla will be expanding its presence there in the future. Elkem, Borregaard and Sapa already have a long history in the region, as does Jotun, which is represented in a number of Asian countries.

Orkla’s ambition of further growth in Asia is reflected in the Board of Directors’ decision to make substantial expansion investments in Sapa’s plant in Shanghai and Orkla Foods’ acquisition in 2007 of MTR in India which has over 1000 employees. REC, in which Orkla is the largest shareholder, has announced plans to invest NOK 23 billion in an integrated facility in Singapore. On a similar tack, Jotun has decided to build its largest factory to date in South Korea. Orkla Financial Investments is also taking an interest in the Asian market and made equity investments in the region in 2007.

Orkla Asia Pacific was established in summer 2006, with an office in Singapore, to support the business units’ growth and development in the region, identify new business opportunities for the Group and facilitate contact and exchanges of knowledge between Orkla companies.

In the Asian region, Orkla has offices in China, United Arab Emirates (UAE), India, Japan and Singapore.
